Shetani stepped warily into the desolate looking place. She stared at the enormous skulls, picked clean and bleached white by the sun. Their eye sockets were massive voids of darkness. Who knew what might lurk inside those domes of bone. Her ears were perked, alert for any sound. Her bright green eyes, scanning the area for the slightest movement. She wasn't worried too much. She had been told there was another clan in here, but Shetani was hoping that she would not encounter them. If she was lucky, she could just pass through undisturbed.

Small, echoing laughters could be heard throughout the Graveyard. It was just loud enough to be heard, but barely even audible at all. This set the eerie mood that had made the Graveyard so famous since the reign of Ahadi, and warned of the danger that was just as famous...

Every muscle on Shetani's body tensed at the sound of distant laughter. She sense a presence, perhaps multiple ones. Were they malevolent ones? She stepped carefully. She didn't rush, for she was not afraid, not running. But she did move quickly, because afraid or not, she would rather not be here, and she would rather avoid a confrontation. As much as she enjoyed the thrill of a fight, she had a personal mission this day. She stepped over the huge tusk of a bull elephant, eager to leave the eerie place.

"Ooooh, lookit that, there..." "Pretty little lioness running around the ol' Graveyard, eh?" "What exactly 's she thinkin' troddin' along in 'ere? Daft little lion." "If anything she'll be a fine meal, if we can catch 'er..."
Malicious whispers spread across the Graveyard, some near and some far. It appeared as if all eyes, invisible as they could be, were on Shetani as she walked through the damned land.

The powerful lioness snapped to attention, wondering for a moment if her ears might be decieving her. She could hear voices, faint though they were. They seemed to come from everywhere, but she couldn't see anyone yet. A low growl formed in her throat, and wicked, gleaming black claws unsheathed slightly in preparation for her attackers. Now she was on full alert. They were close. Too close for her liking.
"I'll show them pretty and little if they show their filthy hides..." She muttered quietly through clenched fangs. Whomever her parents were, she had inherited a larger, strong form from some family member. She was by no means little. Her reddish fur stood on end, tail twitching rapidly.

"Catch this..." A loud sniff was heard. Whoever these hyenas were, they were certainly not discreet. "She smells outright like a hyena herself!"
"Not just any hyena," A male, deep voice added, "Smells like the Teikan clan."
"Those prissies?" A snort, and then, "How do you like that! They're so stuck up not to get us out of this hellhole, but they'll take in a lion?"
"Well, let's just do ourselves a favor then and politely rid ourselves of their pet," came the hiss of a female, possibly the matriarch.

"Pet?" the lioness snarled at the hyenas insulting her clan. She looked around, trying to locate them and assure she wouldn't be attacked from behind. Shetani was confident in her fighting abilities, but she was no fool. She knew four was an overwhelming amount of hyenas for any lioness to fight off. Not that she would give these jerks the satisfaction of thinking that she believed so. If there was going to be a fight, she was damn well going to give them the fight of their lives.
"Come out and show yourselves, fools. I am no pet. I am Shetani, daughter of the Khan. And if you get your cowardly butts out here, I will show you what a daughter of Teikan can do!"
She roared defiantly at the voices. By now she had figured a confrontation was inevitable.

The hyenas shrieked with laughter much louder than previously. The shadows around Shetani grew and twisted from their still forms, and approached her viciously. Four hyenas, three male and one female, finally came into view.
"The Khan's daughter, eh?" The female said mockingly.
One of the males continued, "Bet she even thinks she's a hyena, too!"
Their laughter continued and they circled her, spitting out more insults here and there.

"Shove it, you pigheaded ingrates. Your mouths spout more crap then your behinds could ever make. And frankly, it's startin' to stink here." She watched them as they circled, her vivid green eyes revealed no trace of fear. She was calm, but defiant. She had a fire in her eyes. She had anger, but not the kind that let her get out of control. She had anger with focus, so she could use that anger to fight. At the same time, she was trying to rattle them with her insults. If they lost control, she would have a better chance. She knew an out of control opponent who allowe dhimself to be controlle dby his emotions, made critical mistakes. "I just need to pass through here. So are you silly little cublings gunna scram, or do I have to teach you a lesson?" She smiled. It was a chilling smile, eerily reminiscent of someone many hyena's had known. Along with her eyes, venom green and shining with malicious intent for her attackers, it completed a picture of familiar creature, long dead.

"Oooh, didja hear that? She's a teacher now!" One hyena male cackled.
"A lesson-teaching-hyena-Khan-wanna-be trapped in a lion's body! What a bundle of fun you are!" Another male chimed in, his high-pitched voice irritating enough to drive Aiheu Himself mad.
The other two hyenas shrieked in continuing laughter at the comment, circling her still all the same. But when the female caught the eyes of Shetani...
"Those eyes," she thought, "They're... she can't be!"
She growled and immediately turned serious. "Boys, whaddaya say we cut the kiddin' and show our guest some manners, eh?"
They seemed to know what her serious tone meant, and immediately became serious themselves. Perhaps that was why they were this Khan's apparent guards, or henchmen. Any hyena that could drop the laughter and go into dead-seriousness that fast around here was definately worth keeping around as a fighter. They lowered their heads, and circled her still, waiting for just the right moment to strike.

She was unhappy to see that her insults didn't phaze them. She couldn't let their insults rattle her. This was not the time to lose her head. Something, however, did seem to shake them up.
"Am I gettin' ya scared, you wastes of fur?"
She laughed. She watched all of them, calmly, trying to inch her way out of the circle. She didn't want to be in between all of them. She could tell by their body language that the fight was iminent now. Every muscle in her body prepared for a fight. If they were going to take her down, she was going to give these hyenas the feircest fight they had ever seen.

"Not in the least," Was all the Khan said, then with a snarl she ordered an attack. Each hyena broke from the circle and went directly for each of Shetani's four limbs, three caught on immediately but one male missed by a single inch.

Shetani roared in pain as she felt three sets of hyena teeth sink into her paws . But as soon as one of them missed, she ignored the rest and focused on him. His head was already low from his poor aim, so she lifted her paw and smashed his face into the dirt, digging her claws merciliessly into his skull. Lowering her jaws, she grabbed him by the back of his neck, being sure to bite down hard as she tried to lift. She was trying to throw him bodily into the large elephant skull nearby.

The one who had missed, albeit the mouthiest one in the group, shrieked in pain as Shetani's merciless fangs gripped into his loathsome neck. As she was much bigger than him, for he was one of the smaller males, Shetani's attempt proved successful as he felt himself being hurtled into the air---then a loud crack as he felt his spine snap against the surface of the elephant skull. As he landed on the ground by the skull he felt no more.
The remaining hyenas reacted by fighting harder, not for the honor of their fallen comrade, but to be the one to have the glory of taking the lioness down. Such as they were, they cared little for the fates of their comrades, but merely for their own self-interest.
One hyena let go of Shetani's back leg to attempt to dash under her and rip into her belly. If his attack was a success, she would be down in a matter of minutes and the glory of the kill would be his to brag about!

Shetani repayed those with their teeth in her paws with vicious bites to whatever was closest. Usually this meant a brutal strike to the face if they didn't try and let go to get out of the way. She felt one hyena's fangs release. She snarled, wondering what the sneaky hyena was up to. She wasn't going to waste air on insulting them anymore. She lifted her back leg, hoping to rake her claws across his back. She roared in pain because she hadn't hit him fast enough to stop the attack right away.
