Shetani took an unusual amount of time to answer such a simple question. This was because her body was weakening by the second. The dark shape of the hyena in front of her was beginning to blur momentarily. But when she finally got her bearings, she turned her head to point towards the border of the Outlands.
"I crossed the Graveyard in order to reach those lands."
Her legs gave out for a split second and she supported herself on a bull elephant tusk.

His ears perked at the sound of approaching hyenas. He growled, and jumped towards Shetani. "Lay completely still," he whispered, then leapt over her and yelped as he landed on a paw injured by the fight. He growled and bared it, pushing himself up just as a few hyena scouts came into view.
"Kugonga, what happened here?" A burly male barked, ordering more than asking of the poor male now known as Kugonga.
Kugonga bowed his head lamentfully and uttered, "We were attacked by a lion. The Khan is dead."

Her mind faintly registered the sound of more hyenas approaching. More? Damnit, why can't I get a break today? Shetani layed as still as she could, as Kugonga had asked. It wasn't hard. Laying still was more of a relief then anything. She just had to fight to stay conscious. If she fell asleep, she feared that she may never wake. "We were attacked by a lion." She heard Kugonga say. This irked Shetani a bit. I attacked them? She sighed inwardly. He probably had a good reason for presenting the situation in this manner.

"Dead!?"
Murmurs and curses were uttered between the scouts. By now there were around seven hyenas present; these were just the ones close enough to have heard the fight. If the whole clan had been there...
"The lion is dead too. I finished the demon myself," Kugonga said, then motioned over to Shetani. She certainly LOOKED dead.
Voices of approval went up, and shouts such as "Good job," and "Damn demon deserved worse" could be heard. The hyenas went over to collect their dead Khan, while the burly male stared suspiciously at Kugonga. Finally, he too went to collect his Khan. Upon sniffing and inspecting her, however, what he found sent a growl to his maw. He looked over to Kugonga.
"The demon killed her all right, but it seems she had a little help," he said menacingly, then stalked towards Kugonga, "Traitor! Murderer!"

If Shetani wasn't trying to lay still, she would have given them a peice of her mind. Why did they hate lions so much? Did most lions hate them back in the same way? Everything seemed to be going fine until Kugonga's role in defeating the Khan was revealed. Damn you Kugonga. I didn't spare your furry butt so you could get yourself killed! It took a lot of effort, but the lioness that they thought was dead suddenly got to her bloodied paws with a thunderous roar.
"Keep away from him!"

"Shetani, no!" Kugonga shouted. Slowly, the hyenas advanced. Kugonga spoke fast, "Guys, you don't understand!"
"Don't understand what? That you helped a demon kill our Khan?" The burly one asked furiously.
"No! Shetani was just passing through, we were the ones to antagonize her!"
By now Shetani and Kugonga were surrounded by the hyenas, and they seemed less than interested in hearing what Kugonga had to say...

She glared at them all. Her body was weak, but her green eyes still had the same fire in them. And although she had come through before she knew that now she didn't have a snowball's chance in hell. They didn't seem to want to listen to reason.
"I'll show you a demon." She growled. "Stop being idiots and listen to your own clan member. He's trying to explain. I was passing through here and your Khan decided to attack me. I was defending myself, and Kugonga didn't kill her. I killed her."
She was quite sure they weren't going to listen. If the raked one was willing to let her kill Kugonga, they probably weren't much better. They also seemed to have a horrible prejudice against her. She couldn't understand it. Akida had told her that other hyenas didn't like lions, but she had no idea it was to this extent.

"Shut your mouth, demon-cat!" snarled the burly one. If he weren't in the middle of an interrogation, he'd have killed her then and there.
"Please, you know me! You know I'd never have hurt the Khan! And... and you also know how impulsive the Khan was! Acting without thinking! You know what it was like!"
His arguments didn't shake the burly one, nor most of his followers. Two hyenas slowed their paces, however, as if contemplating what he said.
"You know the law. All demon-cats are to be killed in this land, no exceptions! The Khan was carrying out the LAW!" The burly one snapped. He seemed hesitant to issue an attack, however. Kugonga had been a lifelong friend. The law was the law, however, and Kugonga had just broken the law by aiding a lion.
And the Khan's death was a direct result of that.

"Come over here and shut it yourself! I'll keep talkin' 'til I stop breathin'! What in the blue blazes is wrong with you? This was the only route I could take to where I was going. My clan doesn't hate lions, why do you have to attack every one you see?"
Shetani was careful not to mention the name of her clan. It would be better that they didn't know. She didn't want to involve her family in this. The thought of Chon and Kali, and little Makedde. And her father, who would never fight back. Akida and the rest of the fighters could hold their own, but war was no good for hyena cubs.

"I'm warning you!" snapped the burly one, glaring at the already dead-looking lioness. He was very close to attacking and finishing her. Not only did he have nothing at all against killing an already half-killed creature, but he rather was looking forward to it. It would be a nice change to have lion meat for dinner tonight. The only thing making him hesitate was Kugonga.
"Please, do what you want with me. I'm the traitor. But let Shetani go! She's only trying to travel to the Outlands, what other way was there for her to go? What right did our Khan have to stop her?"
"She had EVERY right! Any demon-cat who steps foot in the Graveyard is forbidden and makes the land impure! Do you forget that it was the demon-cat that banished us here in the first place!?"

"It wasn't me who banished you, idiot. You hate on me because somebody who just happens to be of my species banished you? Do you have any brain at all, or are you just blind?" She spat.
"'Makes the land impure', 'I'm warning you!'" She mocked him in a horribly irritating voice and then snorted. "Will you listen to yourself?"
Shetani refused to be silenced. What did it matter anyway? If they had already decided they were going to kill her, she might as well make the best of it. She looked over to Kugonga and spoke at a volume only he could hear.
"Quit it. I'm finished already. I didn't save your hide so they could tear it to peices."
Her point was made evident by the substantial amount of blood that hadn't stopped flowing from her wounds. The one on her belly was particularly bad. It was a miracle that she was still standing. She never thought it would end quite like this.

The burly one snarled, "That's it! I'll have no more of this, kill them both NOW!"
He attacked along with four of his comrades, but two chose a different path. One was a female, the other a male that looked quite honestly like a clone of Kugonga, except that this one was a little more brown in color than his more gray counterpart. These two cornered three of the advancing five, and kept them quite busy enough to make the fight a little more fair for the pair of mismatched heroes. Kugonga was quite glad of his comrades' support as he turned tooth against the burly one himself.
"I already made my choice!" Kugonga growled out to Shetani as he continued to fight with his waning strength against the burly one, "You're not going down alone, if at all!"

"Poor cubby gettin' angwy?" Shetani couldn't resist one more shot at the burly ones pride seconds before the second fight commenced.
She looked at her hyena partner "Stubborn." Was all she said.
She happily noticed that some of the clan had decided to help Kugo and herself. But she was worried. She had very little strength left to fight There was no way she would ever give up, but her body was not as strong as her will. She bit and clawed at any enemy hyena in her way. She aimed for eyes especially.
"If you can't see, you can't fight." She muttered.
Hits to the eyes were still effective, but unless her aim was good she was doing little damage. Her limbs were becoming weak, and so were her hits. She was becoming slower to react, and her sight began to stay blurry for longer amounts of time. She didn't know how much longer she could last.

The two who joined in obviously knew what they were doing. The three they had separated from the rest of the fight were quickly run off. They joined in with the others; now, it was four against three. The one that resembled a browner Kugongo helped with the fight against the burly one, and the female aided Shetani against her two offenders.
Shetani's attacks on the eyes of the hyenas were ineffective until a lucky shot took out one poor hyena's eye. She yelped in pain but continued to fight, though she was now at a disadvantage.

Shetani gave a malicious chuckle as she took out one of her opponents eyes.
"Thats whatcha get fer messin' with me."
Shetani really wasn't an evil lioness, but when somebody was attacking her she could be quite vindictive. She lowered herself and prepared to leap at the half-blinded hyena with claws extended, but her vision blurred again and her aim was very off.
