Kugongo snarled at his browner counterpart, "Help her! I've got this," he told him. The brown one hesitated, but nodded and turned to help Shetani and the other female. As he saw Shetani leap and miss by quite a bit, he decided to do something he knew she probably wouldn't like. He ran over, grabbed her by the scruff of her neck, and began to pull her away.
"You're done here," he told her through muffled lips as he dragged her away. It wasn't easy, she was quite heavy!

"Gerroff!" She growled. "You ain't draggin' me out early. I've never left a fight unfinished! I'm not done yet!"
She protested the whole way, and would not make it easy to be dragged off. Although she could have easily resisted were she in any sort of regular condition, everything was blurring now. She dug her claws into the dirt, but they wouldn't hold.
"This is embarassing. Quit it! Lemme go..."
Her protests gradually became weaker.
"Damnit...."

"Shut it," the brown one replied coolly, and continued to drag her out of harm's way. "So am I correct in assuming you're heading to the Outlands? That's a pretty far walk to drag a huge lump like you," he asked, and it couldn't be told whether that last comment was serious or a joke.
Back at the fight, the female ran off one hyena and knocked the blinded one unconscious. She quickly ran to help fend off the burly one, to give poor Kugongo a helping paw. Kugongo's own strength was quickly failing as well.

Don't tell me to shut it, buddy. If I weren't in such a sad state I'd start draggin' you." She said.
She noticed that Kugo was in bad shape too. He was also beginning to falter. SHe began to struggle again.
"Hey, let me go help him!"
She felt pathetic. She still couldn't stop herself being dragged. By the scruff of the neck like a helpless cub, no less.
"Kugo, your jerk. If you die, I'll kill you!" She shouted at him.

"You're in no state to help anyone, demon-cat," he said, "Why my brother chose to help you is beyond me, but I've never known Kugongo to do wrong. So help you, I will. If you stop struggling, it'll be over a lot faster."
Kugo barely heard her. The fight was escalating, but with a final, decisive kick from the female, the burly one was thrown down. He struggled to his feet, but seeing that this was a losing fight he growled and gave up. Instead of continuing the fight, he snarled.
"Go! Get out of here then, traitors! But be warned: I'll let the entire clan know of your treachery! If you're ever seen here again, you're dead!" he said, then scampered off to follow his comrades.

"I told him not to help me. But he's stubborn...." Her voice got weaker. "Jerk..."
She couldn't make out anything now. Her vision wouldn't go back to normal. In fact, it was beginning to fade completely. Blackness was creeping in. She fought to stay awake, fought like she always did. But her body failed her. She stopped fighting in the only way she could be stopped. Her body was forcibly sending her a message, and it was 'rest!' She glimpsed the burly one running off before she slipped into unconsciousness.

Kugongo and his female helper stared silently at the burly male as he ran off, not caring to reply to his taunt. They knew what their treason meant, and knew it long before the burly one said it. They were rogues, outcasts now. Though for some reason, it didn't seem all that bad. To Kugo, maybe it was because of the strange occurrence of their supposed enemy, a lion , treating him with more dignity than most of the hyenas in his own clan had for all his life. In any event, what had happened was in the past. The two turned towards Shetani and the browner male, and headed over to them with Kugo relying heavily on the support of his female counterpart. His own injuries were quite bad, though not as bad as Shetani's, and he was damn near close enough to black out himself.
The browner male sneezed, rubbed his nose with a fore paw nonchalantly, and said "It seems she has fainted. So NOW what do you want us to do with her, Kugo?" "She made it this far, and braved our lands and harsh people. She's on an important mission indeed, then, if she's willing to risk so much for it," Kugo said wearily, but admiringly all the same. The weariness came certainly from his wounds rather than Shetani braving their lands. "We'll take her to the Outlands and leave her there. I've heard their new queen is kind to outsiders, so they'll no doubt find her and take care of her. We'll watch in hiding to make sure all goes well." "But why, Kugongo? Why so much hassle? Why risk your very life for a demon-cat?" said the female, utterly appalled and confused at the very idea.
Kugo looked at Shetani thoughtfully for a moment. Without looking away, he said in a small, tearful voice, "Because. Shetani saved my life, and at the same time my own clan mates turned their backs on me and didn't care if I lived or died." The three were quiet for a moment, taking it all in. The very thought that a demon-cat, a lion, could ever hold more virtue in her veins than a hyena, was a lot to take in. In the end, they all silently agreed that Shetani deserved to finish her journey. Working together, they hoisted the big lioness onto their backs and carried her towards the Outlands.Continued at "A Life for a Life"[/b]
