Character trends

Well I've been looking over my character's histories and I find that all of them are tragic in some way and most of my characters are evil, were evil, or depressed. I don't really have any cheerful characters.

Azra - was Evil
Kualei - Depressed
Koa - Evil
Giza - Evil
Tao - Depressed

So I was thinking, is this same with other people? Like if you look at your characters, what are the most common traits they all have?

I suppose Leto could be evil if you strip it down like that, though I hesitate to use the lable cause it's never that simple. At least not with my characters it is, a shining white knight character is to me not necessarily good, a Knight afterall kills people, they are warriors.

Many of Leto's actions would brand him as a villian, but that doesn't mean he's incapable of showing compassion, loyalty and love from time to time. I suppose he is a bit of an asshole, but he's no saint either, this does not mean he's evil; despite that he's capable of, and has done some very hideous things.

Leto's pride to the average observer would be considered "evil", they're after all a theological stratocracy, that embrace slavery among other things and seeks to conquer or assimilate other prides, those that refuse to submit are annihalited down to the last child.

Does this mean Leto is evil? or any of his pride members are evil? Not necessarily. Leto himself does not consider the actions perpetrated by his pride to be evil, good does come of their actions though given the fact he's indoctrinated into the prideal philosophy one could question the bias of such statements.

Despite that they on the face of it makes Hitler's Nazi Germany seem benign, they're not evil in the traditional sense. As mentioned despite their horrific doctrine their actions aren't necessarily bad. The conquered pride members that chose submit are spared, and many find a new purpose in their life that they lacked before the Xaxios'h found them.

Oh yes, I totally understand what you're saying. I don't honestly think there's any good or evil, just different ways of obtaining satisfaction and whether you do it mercilessly or not.
I personally think something only seems evil if you are on the side being victimized.
